Paul Evans, Senior Partner
Chartered Accountant (FCA)
Qualified in 1979, Paul heads up the firm’s work with Registered Social Landlords (Housing Associations) and also specialises in providing tax advice and planning to high net worth individuals.
“Tax planning is very enjoyable work, being pro-active in nature and potentially making a significant difference to a business’s or individual’s financial affairs.”
Approaching the ‘empty-nest’ stage of life, Paul is looking forward to having more spare time to pursue his interests in sport, particularly cricket and football, and listening to music, both of which he admits to, in recent years, enjoying as a spectator rather than a participant.

Ivan Walker, Partner
Fellow of ICAEW (FCA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
Qualified in 1991, Ivan provides advice and guidance to business start-ups and owner-managed SMEs and specialises in Farming and ABC circulation audits. He is also a Governor at Nassington Primary School.
“The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing clients I have advised achieve their professional and personal aims and ambitions.”
Ivan has two school-aged children who occupy most of his spare time, but he likes to make good use of his Peterborough United season ticket and enjoys regular trips to music and comedy shows.
Something you may not know…
Ivan took up running in January 2008, aged 41 and 10 months later completed the Great Eastern half marathon. |

Garry Wiles, Partner
Fellow of ICAEW (FCA) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
Garry qualified in 1992 (FCA) and 1994 (CTA). He provides guidance on business strategy and development matters as well as specialising in corporate and personal taxation for clients ranging from self-employed individuals to large corporate organisations. He is also the Financial Director of Stephenson Smart’s Financial Services company.
“After 20 years of working with a wide range of businesses and people, I can make the greatest difference to clients who allow me to get involved on a regular basis in all of the financial aspects of their business - rather than just acting as the 'year end ' accountant.”
Perhaps not what you would normally perceive a typical accountant to be, Garry is equally energetic outside of work, enjoying sport, travel and socialising with family and friends. |

Paula Lawson, Partner
Chartered Accountant (ACA)
Paula was appointed Stephenson Smart’s first female partner in 1998, after qualifying in 1993. Her trademark down-to-earth and common sense approach to business management works exceptionally well for the owner-managed businesses she advises and guides. Paula also acts for charity clients of all sizes and constitutions.
“New start-up businesses need a lot of support to develop and realise their potential. I offer guidance and often act as a sounding board on all aspects of running a business, especially the financial issues.”
Out of work Paula enjoys getting out and about in the Great British countryside, has an interest in historic buildings and is an amateur skier.
Something you may not know…
Success hasn’t always come easily to Paula. She was the only person in her year at primary school to fail the practical test for cycling proficiency. |

Rob Burborough, Partner

Rob qualified in 1995 and provides a wide range of general accountancy services to a diverse range of business sizes and sectors and has built up a strong portfolio through client referrals and recommendations.
“People have a perception of accountants, so it comes as a pleasant surprise that we are able to relate to our clients in a very normal way, talk to them as normal people, as well as do a good job for them”
Rob admits to being a football fan in general and supporting Everton in particular, spending his spare time playing 5-a-side twice a week and watching either his son or Everton play the ‘beautiful game’.

As a child Rob was head chorister at All Saints Church in Peterborough, and sang on Songs of Praise at Peterborough Cathedral. |

Kerry Hilliard, Partner
Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA), Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
Kerry qualified in 2000 and sees her subsequent appointment to Partner of Stephenson Smart & Co as one of her greatest achievements. A well-qualified ‘all-rounder’ with a specialism in audits for Registered Social Landlords, Kerry looks after the financial affairs of SMEs across a variety of sectors, including construction, retail, professional services, business consultancy, nursing homes, subcontractors, farmers, pubs, motor repairs and many more.
“Building relationships with people to help them manage their financial affairs more effectively is very rewarding”.
Away from the pressures of work Kerry enjoys relaxing with family and friends, finding time to read and the odd spot of yoga.

Sue Reynolds, Senior Manager
Sue qualified as a Member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) in 1994. She specialises in medium-sized company audits, sole trade & partnership accounts preparation and taxation.
“What I enjoy most about my work is helping clients solve financial problems.”
Sue is a licensed official in the sport of swimming, helping to run the Deepings Swimming Club where she is also Treasurer. Her appreciation for sport extends to supporting Northampton Saints & Deepings RUFC.

Andrew Abbott BSc (Hons), Senior Manager
Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA)
Andrew gained his qualifications in 2001. As well as helping the firm’s large portfolio of owner-managed businesses, Andrew has particular experience in advising clubs and associations on financial matters.
“Financial stability is very important to most people’s lives, so it’s good to see the added value our services can bring to a business, organisation or individual.”
Andrew sits on the Finance Committee of Peterborough Milton Golf Club, where he is also a member and regular player.
