Newsletter - Summer 2011

Welcome to our summer newsletter

As HMRC continue to focus on PAYE our article ‘Employer penalties’ looks at the penalties in place for employers who fail to pay their PAYE liabilities on time, every time and in full! We also review HMRC’s plans for the future of PAYE and look at the reforms under consideration.

Getting tax calculations right isn’t always easy and the area of VAT remains a common problem area. We remind you of some of the more common errors that occur and the VAT tool kits that HMRC have recently launched to help you get it right. We also report on news that the self employed are being targeted to eliminate fraudulent and inaccurate tax credit claims.

Our newsletter also covers a couple of recent Tribunal cases concerning the tax rules on pool cars and looks at grants and other financial support available to help a business realise its potential. We explore some unwelcome capital allowance reductions which are set to come into operation in April 2012 and conclude it’s not all bad news. There is also some good news for owners of agricultural property, ‘Minimising IHT by maximising relief’ explains further.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding any of the articles we have included in our newsletter or if you would like further information on a topic we haven’t covered. Your views are always important to us and we would welcome any feedback you could give us.
